⚠️ Important 2026 Update: Refrigerant Regulations

Starting January 1, 2026, California requires new residential air conditioners and heat pumps to use refrigerants with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 700 or lower to qualify for state-managed rebate programs. Practically, this means new equipment uses A2L refrigerants like R-32 or R-454B — not the older R-410A.

What this means for you:

  • All new equipment we install meets the 2026 refrigerant requirement. There’s no extra cost or complication for you.
  • If you’re shopping around and seeing prices on R-410A systems from clearance lists, those systems may not qualify for current California rebates. Verify with the contractor before purchase.
  • R-410A systems still work and are still legal to install — they just don’t qualify for state rebates going forward, and R-410A refrigerant itself is being phased down in production.
  • If a contractor is offering a notably-cheap quote on a “great deal” AC, ask which refrigerant the equipment uses. The answer matters.
